Danger

While crickets don’t sting or inject venom, large cricket infestations can generate a massive amount of excrement, which may cause sanitation issues. Crickets can also attract predator species to your home or business, such as spiders and raccoons.

Known for their chirp (which only male crickets can do), crickets have cylindrical, somewhat flattened bodies, rounded heads, long antennae and strong hind legs.

Most crickets are black or brown and they can grow up to 2 inches in length.

Crickets can be found in shallow burrows, fields, yards, refuse heaps, pastures and wooded areas. Certain species of crickets can even be found in ant nests.

Crickets prefer to live outdoors, however they will enter structures in search of shelter if the weather gets bad. They can easily enter houses and buildings by hopping through a door, window or other opening.

Crickets can live for over six weeks and their entire life cycle lasts between two to three months depending on their surroundings.

A cricket begins its life in an egg. After about 14 days, it develops into a nymph. A nymph will then begin growing its wings after about a month.
