Abell Pest Control Donates over $1,200 to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Through Matching Fund Program

Vancouver, BC July 28, 2021 – Abell Pest Control today announced that Abell and the Canadian Wildlife Health Cooperative have together donated over $1,200 through the Vancouver Rat Project (VRP) research initiative to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank. The funds demonstrate Abell’s commitment to giving back to the community.

The Vancouver Rat Project, which is part of the Canadian Wildlife Health Cooperative (CWHC), launched this past spring, and was created to collect and test rodent carcasses for the P1 variant experimentally found to infect rodents. To date Abell has captured more than 60 rodents for research. The CWHC gave $10 per specimen, and Abell Pest Control donated and matched all proceeds from the collection of rats and mice to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank.

“We’ve seen a proliferation of rat-related calls in British Columbia over the past year, and we’re happy to have been able to participate and provide the specimens needed for this research", said John Abell, President, Abell Pest Control. “Giving back to the communities we live and work in is part of our DNA. Our employees have a long history of going the extra mile to help out any way we can.”

Led by the VRP in partnership with the British Columbia Centre for Disease Control and the Structural Pest Management Association of BC and with funding from Genome British Columbia, researchers worked with pest control companies, like Abell to collect rodents caught in specific areas of Vancouver, Surrey, and North Vancouver. The outcomes of this work are of great interest to both provincial and federal groups.

Abell Pest Control is a North American leader in pest control, hygiene, and disinfection services offering businesses and homeowners effective, safe, and dependable services since 1924.
