Mosquito Protection Plan

Together We Can Control the Spread of Disease by Mosquitoes

As a professional pest control company, Abell works hard to control pests and the diseases they may spread.
Today's professional pest control companies are experts in every sense of the word, especially when it comes to controlling mosquitoes, which can transmit serious and sometimes fatal illnesses such as West Nile, Malaria, encephalitis and dengue fever.

And the frightening reality is that these diseases may originate in your backyard or as far away as 20 miles, depending on the type of mosquito involved. That's why the latest identification and surveillance techniques used successfully by pest control professionals take on even greater importance. But you can help too. So please take the time to review these helpful tips.

Eliminate breeding sites around your property

  • Reduce mosquito breeding sites by eliminating standing water in eaves, troughs, wheel barrels, neglected swimming pools, etc.
  • Where elimination is not possible, replace all standing water at least once a week, including bird baths and drain rain barrels.
  • Remove plant cuttings or trash from around your property including pop cans and tires that could collect water.
  • When cutting the grass, do not blow cuttings onto the street. Cuttings will wash into catch basins creating an ideal organic environment for mosquito larvae.
  • Introduce mosquito-eating fish or install an aerator or fountain to disrupt the water surface of ornamental ponds.

Protect yourself and your family

  • Screen windows, doors and other openings with mesh. Use mesh that is 18 x 18 strands per square inch or finer.
  • Seal all screen edges and keep doors and windows shut after dark to prevent entry of most mosquito species.
  • Avoid going outdoors where and when mosquitoes are most active, dusk and dawn.
  • Wear long-sleeved shirts and long-legged pants.
  • If necessary, use the most effective repellents currently available, which contain the active ingredient DEET (be sure to review and follow the label directions).
